Studio 13 2020 Workshops

My travel is restricted to the New England Tablelands in NSW and the Granite Belt Qld.

 

Groups of no more than 8

 

These workshops are generally one or two days long. Experience level: from the beginner to the more advanced.

 

Indigo and Paper: traditional Japanese indigo resist techniques applied to paper- clamping, stitching and pole variations; wax resist; gesso and gouache stamping and resist; combining with rusting techniques; painting with indigo and soy and walnut gall ink on paper.

Creative Book Binding: binding and folding techniques; composite books that engage with a number of binding styles in one volume; containers for books and books as containers; artist’s books; books that involve movement such as carousel, tunnel books, flag books.

Medieval Book Binding: using simple stitching frames with tapes and cord bindings; girdle books with unusual materials e.g.cane toad leather; embellished covers using recycled jewellery and found objects; closures, locks and hinges.

Altered Books: with collage and mixed media and having fun with the story; carving into the book to make secret spaces, making other books to sit in the cavities; storage for found objects; using mixed media; carving the found book as a 3D object; folding found books to create 3D forms.

Etching: zinc plate on paper using non-toxic baths; drypoint etching using acetate and cardboard plates; special effects on drypoint echoing mezzotint and aquatint; chin colle and alle poppe techniques. Note: an etching press is required

Relief Printing: black and white lino printing; multi-coloured lino prints; Margret Preston style outline blocks; collograph prints; strategies for design development. Press not reqiuired

Mono Printing and Mixed Media: fun drawing on the plate and different ways of producing unique prints using a range of media

Joomchi: a Korean paper technique where fine plant fibre paper is felted into layers; incorporating images, colour mixing, creating voids, casting; making leather paper
